Component ProfitabilityThe most significant hurdle to measuring profitability is that attorneys fear the information will only prove that they are not profitable, or not as profitable as they should be. This fear often defeats attempts to measure profitability before the effort even gets off the ground. This session will focus on ways to measure profitability objectively to help you make decisions within various areas of practice, as well as common pitfalls to avoid. A sample Excel spreadsheet will be provided to assist you in performing the necessary calculations. Speaker: Mike Palmer, now retired, is a former CPA and was most recently the Executive Director of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP, a California-based law firm with over 200 lawyers and five offices. An ALA member since 1987, he was President of ALA in 1999-2000 and has served ALA in many capacities at the Chapter, Regional and International level. Mike worked in public accounting and held various finance and administration positions, in addition to his COO/Executive Director law firm experience of over 29 years. He’s been a speaker at many Annual and Regional Conferences, as well as numerous chapters.
